Commonwealth Credit Union is extra proud to be involved with Make A Wish

We are proud of all of our clients and enjoy working alongside such wonderful people and companies. But from time to time, we are extra proud. Now is one of those times

Commonwealth Credit Union has been bettering lives since 1952. And, there’s no sign of slowing them down. A few weeks ago Commonwealth Credit Union, in partnership with Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana, unveiled the region’s first Make-A-Wish Toy Closet

When a child enters the Wish program, it can be somewhat of an overwhelming and scary time for them and their family. With so much uncertainty at that time, one thing the child can depend on is a fuzzy friend, a special doll, or an action hero figure that will be by their side from start to finish. The Toy Closet, located at the credit union’s Hamburg Branch, will be the centralized site for Wish toys, such as these, to be housed.

“To watch a child enter the Wish program, receive treatment, and then graduate to lead a life where they are not only surviving but thriving, is what Bettering Lives is all about,” said Karen Harbin, Commonwealth Credit Union President/CEO. “As the 2021 Wish Chair, I am thrilled that we can provide a home for the toys that start these children on their Wish journey.”

Additionally, Commonwealth Credit Union was named as a Best Place To Work in Kentucky. This is the third consecutive year CCU has received this recognition. “Collaboration, communication, and a culture built from the bottom up. That’s who we are at Commonwealth Credit Union,” said Karen Harbin, President/CEO of Commonwealth Credit Union. “This past year was filled with challenges that we never imagined we’d face, but it’s been amazing to watch our team members rise and meet those challenges. I’m so proud to work with this group of people and see their passion for our communities.”

The Best Places to Work competition is designed as a motivating initiative for companies to focus, measure, and move their workplace towards excellence. Harbin knows that creating a positive environment at any company starts at the top and trickles down through every facet of an organization. In 2014, she launched a corporate culture initiative to build a workplace where the focus was on employee empowerment, recognition, and care for others. Her mindset that internal service is as important as external service was the catalyst for this complete culture renovation. Harbin’s clear vision and the credit union’s values are fully embraced by her team and positions the credit union as a leader among financial institutions.
